Free. Transport for NSW describes its vehicle ferries as a free service, and Towong Shire Council calls the Wymah ferry toll free. Towong Shire adds that the ferry is operated by Transport for NSW but jointly funded by NSW and Victoria.

The Wymah ferry takes cars across the Murray River from Wymah in New South Wales to Granya in Victoria. Wikipedia places it on the upper reach of Lake Hume; Transport for NSW's vehicle ferries page puts it around 45 km east of Albury and gives a 6 minute crossing. Towong Shire Council, on the Victorian side, says Transport for NSW runs the ferry, handling staffing, maintenance, safety and service alerts, while NSW and Victoria share the funding. It is a small boat. Transport for NSW lists a capacity of three cars and says the ferry is not suitable for caravans. Towong Shire Council and Greater Hume Council publish a different rule: caravans and camper trailers may cross if the vehicle and van together do not exceed 17 metres, with a 30 tonne load capacity given by Towong. With the two positions in conflict, phone 02 6020 2038, the number Towong lists for service changes, before towing anything. Hours follow the season. The ferry runs 7 days a week, 6:00 am to 9:00 pm from September to April and 7:00 am to 8:00 pm from May to August, and stops on the first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm for maintenance. Greater Hume Council's visitor pages also list meal breaks at 10:00, 12:40 and 6:00 pm, which Transport for NSW's page does not. The lake decides when it cannot run. A Transport for NSW release of 31 January 2025 said falling water levels had exposed damage to the rails of the loading jetty on the Victorian side, and the ferry had been out of service since Saturday 25 January. The detour it gave was the Bethanga bridge, adding 80 km, or the Jingellic bridge, adding 130 km, and up to 1 hour 15 minutes. In 2023 the ferry was shut from 1 May to 16 June for servicing; Transport for NSW said Murray vehicular ferries need servicing every five years. In 2019 the Border Mail reported a roughly two month suspension from 18 April, when Lake Hume was below 16 per cent of capacity. The boat's age is also unclear. The NSW visitor page and Towong Shire call it the Spirit of Wymah, a heritage-listed ferry built in 1946, while Wikipedia, citing news reports, says the 1946 vessel was retired in May 2013 and replaced.
  • Arrive at the terminal a few minutes before departure; vehicle boarding usually closes earlier.
  • Check the operator's service alerts before travelling — weather, tides and river levels affect services.
  • Confirm accepted payment methods and whether a booking is required for vehicles.
