Fares below are the winter-season visitor fares in effect until Sunday 27 September 2026 (Regular / Saver / Super Saver tiers, cheapest at the edges of the day). All fares are return — there is no one-way ticket — and every passenger, including the driver, travels free; only vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles are charged. From Monday 28 September 2026, SeaLink is simplifying visitor fares to two tiers (Regular and Saver only — Super Saver is being retired) and adding a 15% peak-season surcharge on the visitor Regular fare from December to April; the Saver fare and all resident/landowner fares are not affected by that surcharge. Confirm the post-28-September fare table on SeaLink's site before booking travel from that date. All fares in Australian dollars (AUD).
SeaLink Bruny Island runs the vehicle and passenger ferry between Kettering, on Tasmania's D'Entrecasteaux Channel about 35 minutes south of Hobart, and Roberts Point on the northern tip of Bruny Island. The crossing takes around 20 minutes, and SeaLink operates the service 365 days a year, including every public holiday, under a contract with the Tasmanian Department of State Growth's Transport Commission, which must approve any major timetable or fare change.
There's no seat reservation: SeaLink runs a queueing system, so a pre-purchased ticket buys a place on the next available sailing rather than a fixed departure time, and can be used on any sailing within 365 days of purchase. Every passenger and driver travels free; only the vehicle, motorcycle or bicycle itself is charged, and every fare is a return fare — there's no separate one-way rate. Bruny Island residents and registered landowners can apply for heavily subsidised fares and pre-purchase 10-trip return tickets online.
The current winter timetable runs from Monday 4 May to Sunday 27 September 2026, with 28 sailings a day each way from before 6:30am to after 7pm. On weekdays there's an extra early boat — 6:10am from Kettering, 6:30am from Roberts Point — that doesn't run on Saturdays or Sundays, when the first sailing is 6:50am and 7:10am instead. Fares run in Regular, Saver and Super Saver tiers depending on when you travel, with Super Saver reserved for the earliest and latest sailings of the day.
From Monday 28 September 2026, SeaLink is simplifying visitor fares to just Regular and Saver — Super Saver is being retired — and adding a 15% peak-season surcharge to the visitor Regular fare each December to April; resident and landowner fares aren't affected. Because that change lands only days after this page was last checked, confirm current fares on SeaLink's site if you're travelling on or after 28 September 2026. Two purpose-built single-deck ferries, MV Nairana and MV Parrabah, work the route, with MV Bowen listed as the backup vessel. The single-deck design is what keeps the vehicle queue at Kettering loading quickly.
