The F1 takes standard Opal fares, paid by tapping on and off with an Opal card, a contactless card or a linked device. Transport for NSW prices ferry trips in two distance bands: 0 to 9 km at $7.35 for an adult and $3.67 for a child, and 9+ km at $9.20 and $4.60. Its Trip Planner priced Manly Wharf to Circular Quay at $9.20 for an adult, and the Manly Fast Ferry says its fare is the same as the F1's; the $4.60 child fare is the same band's child price and is read from the child fares table, not from a planner result. Daily caps for an adult are $19.30 Monday to Thursday and $9.65 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, with $50 a week; for a Child/Youth card they are $9.65, $4.80 and $25. Opal single trip tickets are also sold for ferry (they cost more and carry no Opal benefits), and their price was not read. The F1 timetable also notes a $2 transfer discount for contactless payers who change mode within 60 minutes. All fares in Australian dollars (AUD).
Circular Quay to Manly is the one Sydney Harbour crossing that has two ferries on it, and they are different services. The F1 is run by Sydney Ferries as part of the Opal network, and the board on this page is the F1. It runs from before dawn to after midnight: on Monday to Thursday the first departure leaves Circular Quay at 5:30 a.m. and the last at 11:50 p.m., with 62 sailings each way, and Manly's first boat is at 6:00 a.m. The boats run about every 20 minutes at the start of the day, then settle on quarter-hour marks through the day, and thin to every half hour after about 8 p.m.
Most trips take 22 minutes. The exceptions are the hourly sailings that the timetable marks as Freshwater ferries, which take 30 minutes; on weekdays they leave Circular Quay at about ten to the hour from 9:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Friday and Saturday get a trip after midnight, and Saturday adds an early boat at 6:10 a.m. Sunday and public holidays use the weekend table. The timetable PDF in force from 2 October 2026 says that Manly ferry gates close two minutes before departure, and that the departure or arrival wharf at Circular Quay can change at short notice, so check the indicator boards.
The fare is a standard Opal fare. An adult pays $9.20 one way by tapping on and off with an Opal card or a contactless card or device, and a child aged 4 to 15 pays $4.60. Transport for NSW's Trip Planner priced a Manly Wharf to Circular Quay ferry at $9.20 for an adult, and the same single-journey fare applies on the F1 and on the Manly Fast Ferry, according to the fast ferry's own page. The adult daily cap is $19.30 from Monday to Thursday and $9.65 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays.
The other service is the Manly Fast Ferry, a separate operator that takes 20 minutes between Manly Wharf 2 and Circular Quay Wharf 2 and now accepts Opal. Its times are summarised under the timetable, not mixed into the F1 board. At the time of reading, Transport for NSW's alerts list showed no alerts against either the F1 or the Manly Fast Ferry.
Arrive at the terminal a few minutes before departure; vehicle boarding usually closes earlier.
Check the operator's service alerts before travelling — weather, tides and river levels affect services.
Confirm accepted payment methods and whether a booking is required for vehicles.

The F1 is run by Sydney Ferries, takes 22 or 30 minutes and runs from before 6 a.m. to after midnight. The Manly Fast Ferry is a separate operator, takes 20 minutes and, on the times its page lists, runs from 6:00 a.m. to 8:50 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 9:10 p.m. at weekends. Both accept Opal at the same single fare.
Yes. Transport for NSW says an American Express, Mastercard or Visa card, or a linked device, can pay for travel on the Opal network. Tap on at the wharf reader and tap off at the other end, and use the same card both times.
Transport for NSW says all ferries and new wharves on the network are wheelchair accessible, though some older wharves may not have the same facilities, and that at low tide ramp gradients increase and wheelchair assistance may be required.
The F1 timetable says Manly ferry gates close two minutes before the scheduled departure, so allow time to tap on. It also says the wharf at Circular Quay may change at short notice, so check the indicator boards.
