Each fare is per person and comes in a weekday band (Monday to Friday) and a weekend band (weekends and public holidays); a return costs twice the one-way price. A temporary levy of 8% on standard tickets has applied since 4:00 p.m. on Friday 4 September 2026, and PortPlus multi-trip passes do not carry it. The Tickets & Times page prints Geelong tables that include the levy, so those are the figures below. The Geelong route page itself still prints the older amounts ($25.00 for an adult on weekdays, $29.00 at weekends) and labels the weekday band 'Off Peak' and the weekend band 'Peak'. Booking is required before boarding, the service is private and sits outside myki, and the separate Geelong to Portarlington tickets are not listed. All fares in Australian dollars (AUD).

Geelong is not a direct run to Melbourne. Port Phillip Ferries sends its catamaran from Docklands to the Geelong waterfront by way of Portarlington, and the sailing times it prints put the trip at two hours ten minutes: out of Docklands at 10:40 a.m. and into Geelong at 12:50 p.m., then back out of Geelong at 4:00 p.m. and into Docklands at 6:10 p.m. The operator marks both with an asterisk saying they travel via Portarlington, so passengers stay aboard through that call. Those are the only Geelong sailings in the Off Peak timetable, which is the one the operator's site banner said was running on 21 October 2026, and they run on Saturday and Sunday only. Public holidays follow the weekend timetable, according to the operator, which does not say whether a local holiday such as Geelong Cup Day counts. The Peak timetable, used for most school holidays except the winter break, adds a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday pair: 9:30 a.m. from Docklands and 3:00 p.m. from Geelong. The High Peak table for the summer holidays runs every day at the weekend times, but it still carries last summer's dates, 22 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, so this page stops loading weekday information after Term 4 ends on 18 December 2026. Tickets must be bought ahead, because the operator says there are no landside or onboard sales; the retail partners it lists are both in Portarlington. At 1 Eastern Beach Road the Geelong berth sits beside Cunningham Pier next to The Carousel, which the operator describes as a three-minute walk to the centre of Geelong. The Docklands terminal is at 131 Harbour Esplanade, opposite Marvel Stadium. Geelong costs more than the Portarlington leg. With the 8% fuel levy that began on 4 September 2026 included, as the operator's Tickets & Times page prints the figures, an adult one way is $27.00 on weekdays and $31.32 at weekends and on public holidays. This is a private service and is not part of myki. Bicycles travel free, up to 20 a vessel, and should be booked with the ticket.
  • Arrive at the terminal a few minutes before departure; vehicle boarding usually closes earlier.
  • Check the operator's service alerts before travelling — weather, tides and river levels affect services.
  • Confirm accepted payment methods and whether a booking is required for vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

The operator's timetable gives 130 minutes both ways: 10:40 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. from Docklands to Geelong, and 4:00 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. from Geelong to Docklands. Both sailings travel via Portarlington, so the 130 minutes includes that call.
Not in the Off Peak timetable, which is the one the operator's banner said was running on 21 October 2026. Geelong sailings are listed for Saturday and Sunday only. The Peak timetable used in most school holidays adds Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and the summer High Peak table runs daily, but the operator publishes no dates for them.
At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in the Off Peak timetable, arriving in Docklands at 6:10 p.m. In the Peak timetable there is also a 3:00 p.m. weekday departure, arriving at 5:10 p.m. From Docklands the weekend sailing leaves at 10:40 a.m.
With the 8% fuel levy included, as the operator's Tickets & Times page prints them, an adult one-way fare is $27.00 Monday to Friday and $31.32 at weekends and on public holidays. Adult returns are $54.00 and $62.64. Concession is $24.30 or $28.62, a child aged 4 to 16 pays $17.28 or $21.60, and infants ride free with a reserved seat.
From the berth at 1 Eastern Beach Road, beside Cunningham Pier and next to The Carousel on the Geelong Waterfront. The operator describes the walk to the centre of Geelong, Eastern Beach and the Botanic Gardens as short, about three minutes to the CBD. The closest parking it names is Cunningham Pier.
The operator says tickets are sold online, at the Portarlington Post Office and the Portarlington Grand Hotel, and at the Melbourne Ferry Terminal until 40 minutes before departure. It says there are no landside or onboard sales, and the route page says tickets booked at retail partners need at least 60 minutes. Nothing is listed for buying in Geelong itself, so book online.
No. Port Phillip Ferries says it is privately owned and operated and is not linked to the public transport ticketing system, so a myki card cannot be used. You need a ticket from the operator, shown on your phone or printed.
Yes, at no extra charge. The vessel carries 20 bicycles at a time, so choose your bikes in the online booking to reserve a rack, and allow extra boarding time for loading.
